Fruit Fragrances

Fruit based perfumes capture the essence of juicy luscious fruits and allow us to experience the sensations of summer all year long. Fruit based notes in perfume tend to be very versatile as they appeal to all age groups as well as both male and females, hence, their growing popularity among perfumers.

Fruits notes can be used to create very different styles of fragrances ranging from light and refreshing citrus top notes to heavier and more succulent Fig notes. Along with the wide range of fruity scents to choose from, fruit complements other notes such as floral, woody and oriental perfectly.

Fruit notes are usually sweeter or fresher based top notes that tend to be the first notes you smell in a perfume and usually create the first impression of the overall perfume so become an important selling component of the product. Fruit top notes are usually described as bright and energetic and these notes also combined with the middle and base notes add complexity to the fragrance and reinforce the head of a perfume.

Most perfumes on the market tend to carry at least one fruit note and common fruit top notes include lemon, orange, bergamot, grapefruit and berries.

Classic fruit based perfumes include Christian Dior’s J’Adore (1999) and Yves Saint Laurent’s Yvresse (1993). Both fragrances use a combination of peach and florals to create elegant and feminine fragrances that are still popular today.

For more fresh and crisp styles look to DKNY Be Delicious, released in 2004 in both a male and female version. A bright and fresh fragrance that captures the essence of green apples with hints of grapefruit with sandalwood and amber base notes. The female version also has heart floral notes such as lily of the valley, rose and violet while the male version combines with juniper berries and patchouli. You will note both fragrances carry the same top and base notes to ensure they match.

Even pop-stars are putting their name to fruit based perfumes due to their universal and youthful appeal. Taylor by Taylor Swift was released in June 2013 and is a sweet floral and fruity fragrances that combines Apricot, Tangerine and Litchi with floral notes.
